Justin Dorney Justin Dorney

Justin Dorney completed his tertiary studies in 1999 at The University of Western Australia with a double major in Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and Law.

Prior to completing his studies, Justin worked with various Government Departments including the Public Trustee as a Trust Officer handling inter vivos trust estates, and subsequently with DOCEP undertaking a review of the Retail Trading Hours Act.

Since completing his legal studies Justin has worked almost solely in the area of Family Law, firstly with a well known boutique Perth firm. In 2002 Justin travelled to London with his family where he continued to practice Family Law specialising in high wealth and high profile matters for Clintons, one of London's leading family law firms.

After returning to Perth in 2004 Justin commenced employment with another leading Perth firm until he took over as Director of Holden Barlow Pty Ltd. On 1 July 2007 Justin welcomed Nathan Laird to Holden Barlow as co-Director.

While Justin's practice focuses on financial issues arising from the breakdown of the marriage, he also has considerable experience in all areas of family law including parenting and children's issues, child support and areas of domestic violence or welfare of children.

Away from the office Justin enjoys spending time with his family and travelling.

Nathan Laird Nathan Laird

Nathan Laird completed a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University in 2002.

Nathan also has a Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Curtin University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, also from Murdoch University.

Nathan majored in Family Dynamics and Mediation whilst at University.

He is a Member of the Australian Association of Social Workers having maintained his accreditation.

Nathan is also a member of the Family Law Council of Australia, Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia and Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law.

Nathan has undertaken both the National Training Program for Independent Children’s Lawyers and the LEADR mediation training course.

Nathan has worked previously with the Department for Justice and Education Department before joining the Legal Aid Commission to begin his legal career.

While with the Legal Aid Commission Nathan spent time in Kalgoorlie representing clients in both Criminal and Family Law matters and provided remote communities with access to legal representation by conducting circuits to Leonora, Laverton, Esperance and surrounding areas.

Nathan now predominantly works in the area of Family Law representing clients in relation to Divorce, Property Settlement and Child Welfare matters.

Nathan also provides representation for client’s in the Children’s Court in relation to Care and Protection Applications brought by the Department for Child Protection.

Nathan’s interests include scuba diving and other outdoor pursuits and he has a passion for restoring and riding motorcycles.

Brian Taylor Brian Taylor

Brian Taylor completed a Bachelor of Laws at The University of Western Australia in 2005.

Brian also has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree in Language Studies from Edith Cowan University and is currently completing studies for a Master of Laws at the Australian National University.

Brian’s interest in the study of law was kindled as a self-represented litigant in the Family Court, culminating in a successful appeal to the Full Court. His personal experience coming to terms with the Court system gives him an insight into the frustration which many clients experience in Court proceedings.

Prior to studying law, Brian worked in the IT industry for three decades and has lived and worked in the USA, Latin America and the Middle East. He is a fluent Spanish speaker.

In addition to Family Law, Brian has broad experience in general commercial litigation in both the Supreme and District Courts dealing with contract and conveyancing law.

Brian’s principal interest is in Alternate Dispute Resolution to minimise client costs and assist fractured families to reach workable parenting plans.

Brian has sat on consultative committees advising Government on ways to engage and include both parents as active participants in parenting after separation and divorce. His personal interests are cycling and reading. His particular pride and passion is his two children.

Lance Burra-Robinson Lance Burra-Robinson

Lance is a Solicitor admitted to practice in Western Australia, having completed his Bachelors Degree in Law / Arts with a double major in Political Science and Industrial Relations in 2005 from the University of Western Australia.

Prior to completing his studies, Lance was involved in the University of WA Politics club and acted in the roles of vice-president and president.

Lance has previously worked for a specialist mediation firm in the United Kingdom before commencing employment with a commercial law firm in Perth practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, property settlements, criminal property confiscation and Court representation.

At Holden Barlow Lance practices in Family Law representing clients in relation to divorce, property settlements and child welfare matters.

Lance’s interests include rugby union, international travel, politics and international affairs.

Kina van Duyn Kina van Duyn

Kina hails from the beautiful coastal town of Albany, where she worked in several jobs, including 6 years with a Government department.

She began working in law in 1999 with a sole practitioner in Albany.

Kina moved to Perth in early 2003 and began working in a law firm specialising in Family Law. During this time, she undertook the Legal Assistants Training Course provided by The Law Society of Western Australia.

Kina commenced working at Holden Barlow in May 2007 as Assistant to Justin Dorney. She is also responsible for the accounts within the firm.

Kina’s main hobbies are baking and cross-stitching. She loves spending time with her family and many nephews and nieces. She also diligently attends church and enjoys activities organised through the church.

Dianne MacLeod Dianne MacLeod

Dianne originally from Adelaide, spent 13 years in the Northern Territory working as a Secretary in the mining industry before moving to Perth some 10 years ago.

Dianne has a broad range of administration experience, having worked as a personal assistant in mining, property and finance industries.

Dianne commenced with Holden Barlow in February 2008 as Assistant to Nathan Laird. She is also responsible for human resources, marketing and quality practices within the firm.

Dianne’s interests include painting, spending time with family and friends and walks along the beautiful Perth rivers.

Jade Kowald Jade Kowald

Jade graduated from Rossmoyne Senior High School in 2007 and began working as a Receptionist for an Accounting firm.

In April 2008 Jade joined Holden Barlow as our Receptionist and has the very important role of being the first point of call.

Jade is also a Junior Legal Assistant and supports the Lawyers with typing, file management and diarising appointments.

She enjoys the variety and challenges that Family Law offers and is undertaking legal studies to increase her knowledge in this area.

Jade enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, music and going to the beach.
