Justin Dorney Justin Dorney

Justin Dorney completed his tertiary studies in 1999 at The University of Western Australia with a double major in Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and Law.

Prior to completing his studies, Justin worked with various Government Departments including the Public Trustee as a Trust Officer handling inter vivos trust estates, and subsequently with DOCEP undertaking a review of the Retail Trading Hours Act.

Since completing his legal studies Justin has worked almost solely in the area of Family Law, firstly with a well known boutique Perth firm. In 2002 Justin travelled to London with his family where he continued to practice Family Law specialising in high wealth and high profile matters for Clintons, one of London's leading family law firms.

After returning to Perth in 2004 Justin commenced employment with another leading Perth firm until he took over as Director of Holden Barlow Pty Ltd in 2006.

While Justin's practice focuses on financial issues arising from the breakdown of the marriage, he also has considerable experience in all areas of family law including parenting and children's issues, child support and areas of domestic violence or welfare of children. Away from the office Justin enjoys spending time with his family and travelling.

Rashida Bibi Syed Rashida Bibi Syed

Rashida Bibi Syed completed her tertiary studies in 1988 at the University of Durban Westfield, South Africa, with a major in private law and criminology.

After completing her studies, Rashida worked for several in-house and private legal companies. Rashida has experience in general practice, initially starting off as an in-house practitioner analysing commercial leases. She thereafter worked in a suburban legal firm undertaking criminal and civil work including family law work.

Rashida became a District Court Judge in South Africa in June 1997. She was also a member of the Committee for Judicial Officers for the District Courts in assisting with the selection of District Court Judges.

Rashida has extensive criminal experience, working for the Department of Justice as a Prosecutor until she was appointed as a Magistrate. In her experience as a District Court Judge, she worked in the Criminal Courts, in the Maintenance Court and dealt with family law matters including the Civil Courts.

Rashida moved to New Zealand in 2002 and passed all the conversion exams. She thereafter worked for a boutique firm specialising mainly in family law but also undertaking civil work.

Rashida arrived in Western Australia in May 2010 and commenced working with Holden Barlow, where she practices in Family Law representing clients in relation to divorce, property settlements and child welfare matters.She also acts as Independent Children’s Lawyer in the Family Court of Western Australia and as Child Representative in the Perth Children’s Court.

Rashida enjoys spending time with her family over the weekends and is passionate about cooking and travelling.

Elizabeth Alfirevich Elizabeth Alfirevich

Elizabeth Alfirevich completed a Bachelor of Laws at Notre Dame University, a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Education at the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with the College of Law.

With alternative dispute resolution being utilised widely, she completed her Practitioner’s Certificate in Mediation with IAMA (Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia). She is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia and the Family Law Practitioners' Association.

Prior to practising Law, Elizabeth pursued a career as a secondary school teacher.

Since her admission to the legal profession, Elizabeth has worked in practices specialising in Criminal Law, Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She has also worked at a Community Legal Centre in Perth. However, Elizabeth’s particular interest lies in the area of Family Law, especially children and property matters.

Outside her work environment, Elizabeth enjoys travel, reading, theatre, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

Hwuey Leing Kang Hwuey Leing Kang

Hwuey Leing Kang completed her Bachelor of Laws with the University of London in 2002.

Upon completion of her LLB, she trained as a chambering student at a legal firm in Penang, Malaysia which practices in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate and conveyancing. She went on to work in a multinational corporation, as a legal executive in the head office before rejoining her previous firm as a solicitor in their Corporate & Conveyancing Department. During her tenure, she worked predominantly in housing projects, property settlements and commercial tenancy projects.

She also completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at The University of Western Australia in 2008 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration at Murdoch University in 2009.

Now at Holden Barlow, she practices in the area of Family Law particularly in parenting and financial matters.

Leing’s interests include badminton, travel, photography and reading. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Kina van Duyn Kina van Duyn

Kina hails from the beautiful coastal town of Albany, where she worked in several jobs, including 6 years with a Government department.

She began working in law in 1999 with a sole practitioner in Albany.

Kina moved to Perth in early 2003 and began working in a law firm specialising in Family Law. During this time, she undertook the Legal Assistants Training Course provided by The Law Society of Western Australia.

Kina commenced working at Holden Barlow in September 2010 as Legal Assistant to two of the Solicitors, having previously worked at Holden Barlow for two years from May 2007 to April 2009.

Kina’s main hobbies are cross-stitching, reading and baking. She loves spending time with her family and many nephews and nieces, and loves to travel. She also diligently attends church and enjoys activities organised through the church.

Melissa Huynh Melissa Huynh

Melissa Huynh completed her tertiary studies with Murdoch University in 2010 and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Political and International Studies).

After completing her tertiary studies Melissa commenced the Practical Legal Training (PLT) Program with the College of Law. Melissa began working as a Legal Assistant for a Barrister at Howard Chambers in the areas of Family and Criminal law.

Melissa commenced working at Holden Barlow in November 2010 as a Legal Assistant to two of the Solicitors. After completing the PLT Program Melissa hopes to be admitted practice and move into a new role at Holden Barlow as a Restricted Practitioner at the end of 2011.

Sheridan Ten Haaf Sheridan Ten Haaf

After graduating from Albany John Calvin School in 2009, Sheridan worked in retail before moving back to Perth in early 2011.

She commenced work at Holden Barlow in May 2011, where she works as a receptionist and is currently completing Cert 3 in Business.

She enjoys surfing, skating and various other sports and hopes to pursue a career in photography.
